Hotel Review:Park Plaza

There are currently three Club Carlson properties in Bangkok, the 4th a Radisson Blu is being readied for a February 2014 delivery.  The new property was within walking distance from the Park Plaza, I did cruise by the construction but, I did not see any of the other Club Carlson Bangkok properties.
Contemporary, quiet and centrally located can best describe our small hotel.

The Park Plaza was very well reviewed on Trip Advisor and I would have to agree with the favorable comments stated there. This was a category 3 hotel meaning only 28K points per night. Since I have a Club Carlson Visa I qualify for the free bonus night on stays of 2 nights or more so I only paid 28K total for the 2 nights.  It was small property only 8 floors with a rooftop pool/lounge area.  The room was equally small but comfortable located on the 6th floor overlooking an apartment complex, that's typical of Bangkok. We arrived rather early (around 11am) but did not have to wait for our room.  We were given some sort of welcome drink (juice) with ice that we choose not to consume because of the ice.  We were also told not to drink the hotel water so bottled water it was. Rooms have a modern design, with all the latest hotel technology, but rather slow wi-fi connections.

The hotel was on a quiet off street from the madness of the main road a short 10 minute walk away. Soi 18 was a simple little street with street food vendors, massage shops, foodmart and a great cheap little restaurant called P Kitchen right next door to the hotel. This restaurant is where I ordered about 6 different dishes and wasn't disappointed with any. We consumed so much food and beer and paid less than $9 US. A great bar was next to P Kitchen called Palm 18 where we went to collect ourselves from the cultural shock of Bangkok.
Tempura prawns...yum
Simple but oh so delicious, P Kitchen

There was easy access to both the BTS (Asoke station) and MRT (Sukhumvit station) which are excellent for getting around the city.  A large (the place was huge) shopping center called Terminal 21, had every store imaginable is a 5- minute walk from the hotel.
Sukhumvit is a lively place to base yourself and puts a great number of bars, shopping centers and restaurants at your disposal.
Overall I really have nothing to complain about in reference to the hotel, the staff or location, I think it was just Bangkok overall that city made me uneasy and that uneasyness trickled down into everything. I really was happy to leave.
