Thinking beyond what's on the surface

In a previous post I touched on the "how to" of acquiring a Southwest Companion Pass.  Briefly: the need to apply for 2 Chase Southwest credit cards (1 personal, 1 business) at the current 50K bonus per card offer got you 100K points closer to the goal of 110K needed for the pass.  Today, we put in real terms how you can easily acquire the remaining 8K. You only need 8K because 2K will be used as part of your spend to be awarded the 100K bonus points for getting both cards.
I also previously mentioned the Daily Getaways promotion detailed here.  Every week a new set of deals is offered, you sign on to the website at the appointed time and purchased the getaway offer, but quantities are limited and for certain offers and competition is fierce.  For the 3rd week of the Daily Getaways promotion we are looking at discounted tickets to Universal parks, Loews Hotels, Best Western, Choice privileges and IHG (Priority Club Rewards).  The getaway of most value to those of you trying to secure a companion pass will be offered on Thursday, June 27 for Choice Hotel points.  For $166 dollars you purchase 40,000 Choice reward points which can be transferred to 12,000 Southwest points that count toward the companion pass.  Typically most travel bloggers value the Southwest points at 1.67 cents per point for Wanna Get Away fares.  Yes, you are buying points but for the goal of reaching 110K for the companion pass it makes absolute sense. Not only will you have the companion pass but you'll have 110K points toward flying with your companion.  For an investment of $304 ($69 (credit card fee per card) x 2 = $138; $138+$166 = $304 you would have almost a year and half of flying anywhere Southwest flies.  If you going to consider this, remember these offers are rather popular.  Use an American Express card for the discounted rate quoted in my post.  Make sure you sign up for the Choice rewards program before your purchase because you will need your Choice rewards account number.  Knowing about the connection between Choice rewards and Southwest airlines makes this offer beyond what is obvious to a recreational traveler.  All the more reason to keep reading.
